  • Review of events
    • Hackerspaces and Makerspaces of America
      • Good event, 21 attended, 10 new email signups.
      • Trae suggested that we do this again in six months.
      • Mark Garfinkel suggested that we coordinate with academic calendar
      • Celeste suggested taking the talk to other schools, libraries and locations.
      • Trae will be visiting Altamont School in the next few weeks to give a similar talk
      • Importance of getting non-profit arrangements established with different retailers.
      • HackerDojo iPads was a very good system. Implement one at front of space ASAP. Steven W, is looking into it.
      • Steph M. pointed out that it's easier to get grants for specific purchases (set a priority list, get the first items)
      • Trae talked to a lot of people at the different hackerspaces. Was struck by openness, sharing and willingness to teach others.
        • Spaces were one big room, with exception of workshop and woodshop.
        • Spaces generally restrict communication channels to one social media channel and the wiki.
        • A lot of open source dependency.
        • Dallas's advice - get the equipment - the people will show up.
        • Be chill, be relaxed, let people grow and figure things out themselves.
        • Atlanta Makerspace - allows people to make mistakes
          • They don't push authority on other people.

  • Bio Lab's Fermentation Station, Opening Night Wednesday, 7 pm
    • Culture Club - informal get together - Steph's interest area is fermentation
      • Fermentation and medicine making - keffir, kambucha
      • Bring your cultures!
      • Is a relaxed fermentation play time
    • JC - will this be a recurring thing?
    • Steph is only here five more weeks before she leaves on a bike trip.
    • Steph is hoping that some of the interest group will come into the space.
    • Steph is ordering water keffir, milk keffir, and kambucha cultures.
      • Will be bottling the mead,
      • Do we need a small freezer to store cutlures and yeast?

    • All member keys can open up the back area, to get access to breaker box.

    • Need a baker's rack or a clothing rack with hangers to dry the shirts for silkscreen project night.

Steven is paying for RMM to join Vestavia Chamber of Commerce. Needs $30 more for the annual membership fee.
Trae would like to raise funds for City of Birmingham Chanber of Commerce - $400/year.
