I'm trying to streamline the documentation of projects on this wiki. so this page is my project Wikiadmin 3 December 2012

Goals

  • create a project template,
  • make a proto project page
  • in a how to page, explain the use of project pages so that new users may make their own,

Creation

Problem and Solution

the project namespace, or prefix, originally reads as the entire name of the wiki but this can be modified. by searching Mediawiki i found i could override the value of $wgMetaNamespace in LocalSettings.php, by inserting:

$wgMetaNamespace = 'Project';

this allows us to have project pages that begin with prefix "Project:"

clicked on the red link to begin

How the page was created

i searched within this wiki for the page i wanted to create "Project:Project pages", and clicked on the red link by that title. i then started typing all this stuff. how meta.
I'd like to create a text box like that used on "scratchpad wiki" for users to easily make pages

<center>{{New page}}</center>

Project page Standards

Format

  1. template
  2. intro
  3. Goals
  4. Materials
  5. participants
  6. Progress
  • also: image galleries

Template

next i guess i could work on a template that would make a lot of project data standardized. i'll check other hackwikis for inspiration. Wikiadmin 16:59, 4 December 2012 (CST)

Created Template:Project infobox. Wikiadmin 17:59, 2 January 2013 (CST)

data

  • {{TOC right}}
  • image
  • Date started
  • date of next meet?
  • signature of who initiated it (~~~~)
  • sub pages/archive
  • engineering tags?
  • participants list?
  • [[Category:Projects|{{BASEPAGENAME}}]]

Signatures

so i'm researching wikimarkup for an easy way to date posts within the page so i can keep track of when i make certain changes and discoveries i've made. according to mediawiki looks like five tildas makes a time stamp:

~~~~~
but better yet four tildas:
~~~~

leaves a name as well so that multiple people can work on the same wiki and know who contributed what. Wikiadmin 14:16, 4 December 2012 (PST)

Timestamp

tring to localize the time stamp. see Manual:Timezone. you can also set the format of your signiture in your user preferences page, which i think is in special:SpecialPages in the left menu. I'm going to use four tildas at the end of every post i make in a project page. Wikiadmin 16:42, 4 December 2012 (CST)
