Goals/Problems

Design and implement a basic quadcopter.

Use it as a start point for improvements and experimentation.

According to the FAA we can fly one up to 400' as long as we:

  • Aren't trying to make money off of it [1]
  • Aren't in Washington, D.C. [2]
  • Aren't within 3 miles of an airport [3]

Here is a little bit spooky, but incredibly awesome video of swarm UAVs, [4].

Build Options:

  • Ready to fly: ~$30 -- instant, won't learn anything from it.
  • Kit: ~$150 -- will learn the basic components and assembly.
  • From scratch: -- learn the most, but longest to complete.

Size Classes:

  • Nano -- palm size, cool, but low payload.
  • One foot -- Bigger payload so more options.

      • Materials - carbon, balsa, PCB, 3d print
