Perimeter

Organizational tasks

  1. Business plan - need to update Jan -> Feb - JC & Shirley
  2. A full inventory of machine tools, their dollar value, their age, their model numbers, their serial numbers, and their operators’ manuals.
  3. A full set of training and testing syllabi used to train incoming members on said tools.
  4. A safety plan, including evacuation routes, actions to take in various emergencies, incident report processes, and so on. - contact Heather Fox to determine where this is at.
  5. The availability and coverage of security cameras, and policies regarding how long you save the data from them. - Heather & Sandy

Online presence

  • Fix new look for website - IT/IS team, Shirley - DONE!!
  • Complete Wild Apricot integration with WordPress website, get member management switched over (decision to ditch it, James, Shirley Feb 2016).

Greg lead us through a lot of work to finish the Circuits Lab. Lighting, rewiring, painting - the man took us over the finish line in early 2016.

  1. New floor covering - Rick Curl’s agricultural matting? Will likely be around $300 - $350 for that area.

Metal Lab tasks

Started Jan 2015, likely to be a multi-month task, unless person power gathered for a work bee

  2. Open up wall to access existing window, install vent. (in progress)
  3. Run a airline for the plasma cutter. It calls for a dedicated 240v 30a supply. To run everything including the welder.

Print Lab tasks

  1. Identify desired layout and functionality for room
  2. Find a Windows machine to run print server software for the Kyocera photocopier (gives us scanning and fax capabilities, as well as high volume black and white printing)
    1. Connect photocopier to network
  3. Build or find wheeled base for Xerox_Phaser_7760_Color_printer. Base needs to measure 28" wide x 28" deep. Include paper storage below.
  4. Find 2-drawer locking filing cabinet to replace current 4-drawer. To be used for group doc storage. Fireproof, if possible.
  5. Once library has been moved out into a more accessible area, tear out (and reuse?) existing upper shelves and cabinets.

Goal is to make all items in this area portable, so that they can be moved to specific-purpose work areas, once built.

This area is best suited for either a small meeting room or a Lego/Robotics Lab (youth and kid-oriented activity area).

Restroom tasks

  1. Purchase and install grab bars
  2. Purchase or build freestanding toilet roll holder.
  3. Purchase or build paper towel roll holder
  4. Storage for cleaning supplies and extra towel and toilet rolls.

Shape Lab tasks

  1. Install a 15 Amp electrical outlet near the air filtration system (the air filtration system has a remote - and a timed mode).
  2. Set up bandsaw (remove rust from table top - affix table top, re-tension saw, etc.)
  3. Set up big drill press with vise (so it can be used to machine items).
  4. Test tools and perform standard maintenance on all power tools - clean, oil, lubricate, etc.
  5. Run pipe along wall for dust collection system.
  6. Determine what to do about all the other tools in the old shape lab (on the big 8 foot metal shelf).
  7. Move the small metal shelf from the old shape lab and put it in the Southeast corner of the new shape lab.
  8. Hang the remainder of the blue pegboards.
  9. Determine if it's feasible to put the air compressor in the basement (would need to use metal pipe for compressed air lines).
    1. Will any condensate/moisture run back into the compressor tank if we run such a long vertical pipe?
    2. Can we trap the condensate/moisture with a filter downstairs?
    3. Can we use a "wye" to facilitate trapping the condensate/moisture?
    4. We would need to run an additional switched outlet to compressor and leave compressor "on".
    5. How would we adjust the pressure "remotely" ? Could we set the compressor "higher" and add a pressure regulator in Shape Lab?

Safety area tasks

  1. Pull up carpeting
  2. Pull off wall covering
  3. Reinstall attic stairs - or permanently affix attic access door.
  4. Paint
  5. Set up safety area with cabinets/shelves/cubby holes (whatever)
  6. Hang fire extinguisher(s)
  7. Build ramp for back door
  8. Install video cameras
  9. Make poster with "Shape Lab Rules"

Communications & Marketing tasks

Branding tasks

Photo library

  • Build a photo and image library
    • Gather, collate, edit and label digital photos into a digital photo library for use with RMM materials.
    • tag with image size, appropriate use, dates, people (as much as possible) activity type.
    • Determine repository location (currently, mostly within the wiki photo library)

Design next iteration of logo, branding, colors and themes

  • This is a significant task -- not to be started until web site framework rework is complete.
  • Requirements: logo and any supporting graphics need to work as one color designs, both black on white and reversed out (printed in white or black on coloured t-shirts and promotional material)
  • Logo needs to be modular, so that mark and type can work in horizontal, compact and vertiical applications
  • Logo should be usable in both 3D printing, CNC cutting, digital graphics and illuminated installations.
  • Fun, playful, inviting and intelligent.
  • Have a sense of humor.

First, a document with a lot of the settings for setting up our Wordpress site with the appropriate plugins. Not all of them are required for getting the RFID stuff working, but you may be able to figure out which parts you need. It's a google doc, and here's the link to it:
